About Us

The East Grinstead Masonic Centre has been at the heart of Freemasonry in the town for well over a century. Although Freemasonry first met in East Grinstead in 1876, our purpose-built Temple in St James' Road has been our home since 1898, making it one of the earliest dedicated Masonic buildings in Sussex.

Originally built to provide a permanent home for Sackville Lodge No. 1619, the Centre has grown steadily over the years. The adjoining Centenary Building was acquired and connected to the original Temple, creating the facilities enjoyed today, including our dining room, bar and improved meeting accommodation.

Today the Centre is home to a thriving community of Lodges, Chapters and other Masonic Orders. Throughout the year we welcome members, visitors and those interested in learning more about Freemasonry, continuing a tradition of friendship, charity and service that has been part of East Grinstead since the nineteenth century.

In 2022 the East Grinstead Masonic Centre was honoured with the installation of a Blue Plaque, recognising that Freemasons have met in East Grinstead since 1876. The plaque celebrates nearly 150 years of continuous Masonic history in the town.
